YAS was founded by sophomore high school students whose lived experience as young volunteers directly shaped our vision.
We know we are capable of changing the world. That's why our programs are designed and executed by young people to enable us to take action in our communities.
Youth are not the leaders of tomorrow. We are the leaders of today.
Getting Started
As young people ourselves, we are driven to make service accessible to our peers who are also interested in giving back! When our visionaries founded YAS (as General Services Foundation), they were fired up to give back in a tangible way but noticed a lack of engaging opportunities for youth to participate in. Groups recruiting for volunteers often overlook young people because of the perception of lack of interest, motivation, or experience. And sometimes, they don't or can't provide critical training and support for young people (especially minors), leaving youth volunteers in limbo. Ultimately, it is common for youth to be "voluntold" what causes or service opportunities to participate in, leaving little room for creativity and connection.
